Patrick Garrity - Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
"When I first started figuring out basic guitar chords from a Beatles songbook, I never imagined I'd actually write my own songs," says Patrick Garrity, who has been playing and performing since high school. "Later on after I had a couple tunes, I was even more surprised when other musicians agreed to play them with me...and at times that's still just as true today as back then."
Patrick has spent most of his time since college in the Washington, DC area, and has previously played in the funky rock band Otis Finch, as well as the acoustic duo Broken Tailight, releasing an album with each.
Like many songwriters, Patrick thinks of his music as an expression of his experiences. "My tunes ultimately are about me trying to figure out life, three or four minutes at a time." He strives for clever but meaningful lyrics and infectious music you can't get out of your head. "I enjoy the challenge of hearing an engaging melody or a witty turn of phrase and being inspired to come up with something just as memorable through my own filter."
With Round About, Patrick feels like the band brings the best out of him, both as a writer and performer. "I've never been as comfortable in a band as I am in this one...it's been great to reconnect with Dave; I've always been a fan of his songwriting, and think our songs continue to compliment each other very well." As for his other bandmates, he says "we joke that Aaron and Paul are The Talent, because their skills bring an energy that there's simply no substitute for...they add more to the material than I ever could have hoped, and I'm grateful they want to be a part of it."
