Dave Mehring - Bass, Vocals
Dave Mehring has been playing bass and writing songs since college, but that wasn't his first instrument. "I actually started playing trombone in elementary school, all the way through college." And apparently, he was pretty good: "I was the only non-music major in my University's Jazz Ensemble."
After school, however, the allure of playing in rock bands took hold, though bass still wasn't Dave's initial choice. "I actually played guitar first (and still do when writing), but realized that there was always a need for bass players, and made the switch."
Dave is an alum of numerous successful local bands, including the funky rock of Otis Finch, singer/songwriter Lianna, and americana outfit Kid Goat.
Admittedly, Dave isn't the most prolific songwriter, but has always enjoyed it, modest as he is. "I usually write more riff-based stuff; I'm actually surprised it's not more jazzy in general, given my background."
As for Round About, Dave says "I enjoy the music, that I'm able to contribute as a writer, and how each guy's own style and influences blend together...I like that we've developed an overall sound, but that there's a variety in our stuff at the same time."
